Born January 15, 1993
On March 4, 1993, we brought home Misty, and our lives would never be the same.
Because I could not get her AMCA Chondrodysplasia certification, I could not breed Misty, so she was spayed and never shown. Our kennel name comes from a combination of Misty's name and Burt's Golden Retriever, Aspen.
We learn so much about the breed from her. She taught ME how to weight pull. She has natural form and the desire to pull, consistently placing in her class. At her first weight pull, pulling in novice, she won the Under 80 pound class. Her first time in the Regular class, she earned her first leg towards her WWPD. Then she won her last three legs in three consecutive pulls. Her top pull was 1600 pounds at the Alaskan Malamute Club of Wisconsin Specialty. The year after earning her WWPD, she placed in the Top 10 Overall for the Year in 60-79 pound class for the Tri State Alaskan Malamute Club.
She earned legs towards her WTD title running with teams during CAMC outings in the double lead position.
She was High in Trial at obedience fun matches, but promptly became bored with AKC trials and always made the judge laugh. So then we tried Agility, Misty's favorite.
Misty earned the fun title "Working Snow Plow Dog Excellent" from the Alaskan Malamute H.E.L.P. League, because she cleared snow from the sidewalks pulling a tire when we lived in Berwyn, Illinois.
At 12 years old, Misty is now retired from the AspenMyst sled team. She was a character running double lead with Justin. She wouldn't let the boy get away with anything! Often she runs loose with the team. What do you think she does? She takes her place in the lead in front of them and leads them the entire way. Once a lead dog, always a lead dog.
